Cat Pregnancy Calculator
Enter the mating date to see when kittens are due. Cats are pregnant for about 63 to 65 days.
How the calculation works
Cat gestation averages 63 to 65 days from mating, with healthy births anywhere from about day 61 to day 72. Cats ovulate in response to mating, so the mating date is a fairly good anchor. The calculator uses day 64 as the due date.
Pregnancy timeline
| Day | What happens |
|---|---|

| 42 onward | X-ray can count kittens |
| 56 to 60 | Nesting; offer a quiet box with towels |
| 61 to 72 | Birth (queening) |
Frequently asked questions
How many kittens will my cat have?
Four is typical, with a usual range of one to nine. First litters and very young or old cats tend to have fewer.
When should I call the vet?
Call if your cat strains for more than 30 minutes without a kitten, has heavy bleeding or foul discharge, or shows no signs of labor by day 72.
What should a pregnant cat eat?
Switch gradually to a kitten food during pregnancy and nursing; it has the extra calories and nutrients she needs. Let her eat as much as she wants in late pregnancy.
